Ethics and Ecotourism – Our responsibility to future generations.

There is no doubt that tourism plays a major role in conserving Africa’s, indeed the world’s, biological diversity. As responsible tourism operators we go beyond the rules to ensure that our operation and the people we work with, conduct business in an ethical and responsible manner. Thus ensuring that our biological diversity, landscapes and habitats are protected in perpetuity.

What does this mean? There are the simple things like ensuring you leave no rubbish, a personal abhorrence of mine. That you obey rules within National Parks, which are designed to both protect the environment and to ensure ALL visitors receive a rewarding experience. Where and how you use mobile camps is very important, for example small camps moved by pick ups cause less damage than large trucks.

Finally there is a responsibility that all of us should follow where ever we choose go in the world, observing the customs of indigenous people. Many people visit Tanzania to see our amazing variety of environments, wildlife and of course people. You can be ensured that whilst on safari with us any ‘cultural’ visit will be a real and sensitive experience.

In 2007 I set up Tanzania’s first carbon offset project, ensuring that only indigenous trees are planted and that communities surrounding our project sites are helped in the way that they see fit to further protect their environment for themselves. Remember the old adage, take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints.
