From my base in Arusha, northern Tanzania, I have spent the last 20 years exploring the highland forests, Acacia woodland and open plains that really characterize this area. As with all environments around the world, seasonality plays a major role and thus detailed planning is required to get the best from a specific area at the right time of year.

During the dry season (June to November) Tarangire National Park is unrivaled in its concentrations of wildlife which migrate into the park from the Maasai Steppe to the east. Thousands of ungulates and hundreds of elephants crowd along the course of the Tarangire River and swamp systems, which make this dry season resource so essential for such a high density of wildlife. The Ngorongoro crater and the mountains of Meru and Kilimanjaro provide a lush forest environment in which to explore on foot and in a vehicle. At this time the Wildebeest migration is spread out between the Grumeti River system and the Mara River in northern Serengeti so we usually head up north where days can be spent wandering through 2.5 million herbivores!!

During the wet season (November – May), the focus changes to the Eastern Serengeti and Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) which becomes alive as the wildebeest migration arrives on the Angata Sale (Maasai for short grass) plains and Ndutu following the short rains. The Gol Mountains are a fantastic area to base yourself with a mobile camp and explore on foot the 500 million year old gorges that really define this area.

Our combination of mobile and seasonal camps allow us to be in the most exciting localities at the best time of year, flexibility and one to one safari planning results in special itineraries to suit individuals whatever their interest.
