Walking Safaris and Fly Camping

The best walks change with the time of year. During the dry season (June to November) Tarangire National Park is unrivaled in its concentrations of wildlife, this is also the best time to go on walking safaris through the park and beyond. During the wet season (November to May) we walk through the migrating wildebeest and Gol Mountains of the Eastern Serengeti for anything from 1 hour to 4 days.

Fly camping is a wonderful way to sleep under the stars and enjoy the pure tranquility and raw excitement of the bush in a small group. Ten foot square tents made of heavy duty mosquito mesh ensure that you are close to nature but apart from only bugs.

Our fly camp is light enough to move easily and strike quickly, but still retains the everyday luxuries that characterise our safaris– hot showers, comfortable bedding and cold drinks served with gourmet food.

Designed to fit the individual, walking in the bush is the highlight of many guests’ safaris. We encounter wildlife frequently, but wilderness is the goal. By adjusting the length and pace of walks to your pace, the emphasis can be on taking it slowly and having time to smell flowers, not simply hiking but absorbing.

The walking opportunities for guests range from a gentle stroll near the camp, to a full day out on foot exploring the Rufiji River in the Selous or wandering along the wooded ridges that define Katavi. Wherever a walking safari takes you it really can be the defining moment of your African safari.
